Authenticity! Name: Diplomystus sp. Species: Fish Age: Eocene Period Location Found: USA Diplomystus is a prehistoric genus of freshwater clupeomorph fish that was present in the Eocene period, around 56 to 33.9 million years ago. They are distantly related to modern-day extant herrings, alewives, and sardines, and like them their strongly upturned mouths suggest that they fed in open water rather than feeding off the bottom. Diplomystus are often found in association with other Eocene fish from the Green River Formation, particularly the genus Knightia. In fact fossil evidence suggests that Diplomystus preyed upon Knightia! SIMILAR TO SEEN: The image shows an example of the single specimen you will receive. This will be picked from our stock box graded and with a size within the minimum and maximum size range indicated. It will not be the exact specimen in the photo, the colours, shape, size and style may vary as with any natural item.
