MINERAL COMPOSITION & SCIENTIFIC CLASSIFICATION

Lapis Lazuli is a metamorphic rock primarily composed of the mineral lazurite, a complex sodium calcium aluminosilicate sulphide with the general formula (Na,Ca)₈(AlSiO₄)₆(S,SO₄,Cl)₁–₂. It belongs to the feldspathoid mineral group. Lazurite crystallises in the isometric (cubic) crystal system, though Lapis Lazuli itself occurs as a massive aggregate rather than visible crystal forms.

In addition to lazurite, Lapis Lazuli commonly contains:

• Calcite (white veining or patches)

• Pyrite (metallic gold flecks)

• Minor sodalite or other feldspathoids

The rich blue colour is caused by sulphur within the lazurite structure. The golden sparkles visible in many specimens are naturally occurring pyrite inclusions.

Lapis Lazuli has a Mohs hardness of approximately 5–5.5, making it suitable for carving and polishing into decorative shapes.

COLOUR, TEXTURE & NATURAL FEATURES

This Lapis Lazuli Heart may display:

• Deep ultramarine to royal blue tones

• Natural white calcite veining

• Metallic gold pyrite inclusions

• Opaque structure

• Smooth, polished surface

Each piece is unique in its balance of blue base colour, calcite patterning, and pyrite distribution. The polished finish enhances the natural contrast between the vibrant blue lazurite and the golden pyrite flecks.

GEOLOGICAL FORMATION

Lapis Lazuli forms in metamorphic environments, typically through contact metamorphism of limestone. When limestone interacts with mineral-rich fluids at elevated temperatures and pressures, lazurite and associated minerals develop within the rock matrix.

Historically significant deposits are found in regions such as Afghanistan, Chile, and Russia. The material used for this heart carving has been cut and polished from naturally formed Lapis Lazuli.

HEART SHAPE & TRADITIONAL ASSOCIATIONS

The heart shape is carefully carved and polished to create a smooth, symmetrical form suitable for display or holding. This sculptural design highlights the natural mineral composition while presenting a timeless symbolic shape.

Lapis Lazuli has been traditionally associated in spiritual symbolism with wisdom and truth. These interpretations are cultural and symbolic rather than scientific.

This Lapis Lazuli Heart is suitable for:

• Mineral and metamorphic rock collections

• Decorative home or office display

• Symbolic or spiritual décor

• Thoughtful gemstone gifts

• Collectors of carved mineral shapes
