FENESTELLA PLEBEIA FOSSIL CORAL – LOWER CARBONIFEROUS (DINANTIAN) LIMESTONE –
FRANCE

ABOUT THE FOSSIL:

This well-preserved Fenestella plebeia fossil coral originates from the Lower Carboniferous (Dinantian) period (~359-325 million years ago) and was discovered in France. Fenestella is an extinct genus of bryozoans, colonial marine invertebrates that built intricate, net-like skeletons made of calcium carbonate, resembling coral structures.

During the Carboniferous period, Fenestella plebeia thrived in warm, shallow marine environments, where they formed extensive reef-like colonies alongside other marine organisms. Their fossilized remains provide valuable insights into early marine ecosystems, helping paleontologists reconstruct the biodiversity of ancient seas.

GEOLOGY & FORMATION:

• Geological Age: Lower Carboniferous (Dinantian) (~359-325 million years ago)
