This is a rare, well-preserved Cenoceras inornatum fossil nautilus from the
Bajocian Stage of the Middle Jurassic (~170 million years ago). This specimen was discovered in Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, within the Inferior Oolite Formation, a well-known Jurassic marine deposit.Cenoceras inornatum belongs to the extinct group of nautiloid cephalopods, which were marine predators during the Jurassic period. Unlike ammonites, which have intricate suture patterns, nautiloids have a simpler coiled shell with smooth growth lines.
