GENUINE MOLDAVITE – TRANSLUCENT GREEN TEKTITE FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC

This listing is for a genuine Moldavite translucent green tektite from the Czech
Republic, sized approximately 5–20mm. The photograph shown represents an example of the actual specimen you will receive. Each piece is carefully selected for its colour, translucency, surface texture, and collector quality.

Your specimen includes a Certificate of Authenticity lifetime guarantee generic card, confirming it is a 100% genuine natural impact glass. Please refer to the photographs for full sizing and scale.

WHAT IS MOLDAVITE?

Moldavite is a rare natural glass classified as a tektite, formed by a meteorite impact event approximately 14.8 million years ago during the Miocene epoch. It originated from the impact associated with the Ries Crater in southern Germany. The extreme heat and pressure of the impact melted terrestrial silica-rich rocks, ejecting molten material that cooled rapidly while airborne before landing across what is now the Czech Republic.

Unlike volcanic glass, Moldavite is directly linked to extraterrestrial impact processes and is part of the Central European tektite strewn field.

Key material information:

• Type: Tektite (Natural Impact Glass)
• Composition: Silica-rich glass with aluminium and trace elements
• Age: Approximately 14.8 million years
• Formation: Meteorite impact ejection and rapid cooling
• Hardness: Approximately 5.5–6 on the Mohs scale

COLOUR, TRANSPARENCY & SURFACE FEATURES

Moldavite is renowned for its distinctive translucent green colour, ranging from pale olive to deep forest green. When held to light, many specimens display excellent clarity and internal structure.

Typical characteristics include:

• Translucent to semi-transparent body
• Natural etched or sculpted surface textures
• Flow lines from molten movement
• Small bubbles formed during rapid cooling
• Irregular aerodynamic shapes

Its surface texture is often naturally pitted or wrinkled due to chemical weathering and the conditions under which it solidified.

Each piece is entirely natural and untreated.

GEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE & CZECH LOCALITY

Moldavite is found primarily in the southern Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. The material was deposited over a wide area following the impact event, and deposits are now limited, making genuine Moldavite increasingly sought after by collectors.

The formation process involved:

• Melting of surface rock
• Ejection of molten droplets into the atmosphere
• Rapid cooling while airborne
• Deposition across Central Europe

Its unique origin makes Moldavite one of the few minerals directly connected to a known meteorite impact structure.

SIZE & COLLECTOR APPEAL (5–20MM)

With a size range of approximately 5–20mm, this Moldavite specimen is ideal for:

• Tektite and meteorite-related collections
• Geological and planetary science displays
• Micro specimen collectors
• Jewellery projects (subject to suitability)
• Unique gifts for mineral enthusiasts

Even at smaller sizes, Moldavite remains highly collectible due to its rarity and documented impact origin.

TRADITIONAL ASSOCIATIONS (NON-MEDICAL)

In spiritual traditions, Moldavite is traditionally associated with transformation and cosmic symbolism. This listing presents the specimen strictly as a natural tektite formed by a meteorite impact, without any medical or outcome-based claims.
